Welcome back to the Buy List all!
This week I have very little to say but will try my best to be engaging.
From DC I still need to catch up on Batman and robin Eternal which is frustrating because I have been missing issue 4 for a while and have not had success on getting it re-ordered. However, Batman Europa has been surprisingly good even if I do miss Scott Snyder's brilliance. The only indie on the list this week is God is Dead. This is a series that is still pretty good but it almost fell into a trap of repeating story lines. The last issue subverted expectations and I look forward to this next one.
On the Marvel front, I am super excited for Obi-Wan and Anakin. Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of my favorite characters in Star Wars and beyond reading about him in the expanded universe and the Clone Wars novels I haven't read much more of him and his training of Anakin. Chewbacca has been running strong and I am interested to see what this final issue brings. Carnage started to pick up a bit in issue 2 but I am still waiting for the things I love about carnage. I have still only read the first issue of All New Wolverine because I just realized this week I never got the second issue. This is something that I need to work out this week. However, it is aura Kinney, need I say more? Amazing Spider-Man, well it's in the title, amazing.
Other than that I will leave you on this final note. If you are not reading anything else, please pick up Peter David's run on Spider-Man 2099. It is one of the best things going on right now and I am thoroughly enjoying everything about that book. On a side note, I did read the first three issues of Paper Girls and let me just say that Brian K Vaugn never fails to impress me.
Welcome back everyone!
This week I actually have somethings to talk about! I have not caught up on Batman and Robin Eternal but that is because I am missing issue 4. However, the DC books that I am picking up this week I am caught up on. Deathstroke started off extremely strong and the art has been amazing. It is still going pretty strong and I am a huge fan of the character as a result of this book. Before Tony Daniel did his amazing work with this character I thought he was mediocre at best. Teen Titans is another book that started out strong. However, for me, it dipped a bit for a while. The last three or four issues were great. Red Robin (Tim Drake) is the leader we've always wanted for this team. He is Batman is the truest sense even if he is not actually Batman. It is worth noting that JLA #5 was a bit of a stand alone issue that really did not interest me at all and took me out of the whole Roa story.
Everything else on the list here has continued to be good and I can't wait to see where those stories go. The book I actually need to talk about is Daredevil.
The first issue of the new Daredevil is not a continuation of the previous series. The previous series still happened based on some context clues but this is not Mark Waid's Daredevil. This Daredevil is reminiscent of Shadowland Daredevil in a way but is more an extension of Frank Miller's Daredevil. He is gritty, he is aggressive, and he is intriguing. This version of Daredevil is a hero, but he is not compromising. The art is dark and grim whereas before it was light and fresh. Foggy has a brief appearance and the villain is introduced. A character by the name of Blindspot is Daredevil's new sidekick. It is not the same Blindspot that I had talked about in my previous mention of the book before I bought it. We are also introduced to the new Villain Tenfingers. It is also important to note that Daredevil is back in New York and his identity is once again secret.
That is all for this week everyone but feel free to eave your thoughts in the comments section and share this with any fellow nerds. Tune in to our weekly podcasts and follow us on Twitter @nerdyboysreview. Thank you everyone, happy holidays and #StayNerdy.
That is a lot of books.
Honestly, I am a little unsure about a few of these books. The first issue of Illuminati was okay but ended very strong. I have not read Huck or the Goddamned yet so I am not sure if I am even that interested in those but I have faith in the writers. Deadpool is on a better foot and the Inhumans stuff is amazing. The first issues of both Ms. Marvel and Mighty Thor were amazing. I hope to catch up on these books and update the review for you all
Welcome back everyone!
I really do not have much to say this week. Spider-Man 2099 has been one of my favorite things to read these past few weeks. I am not sure of the impact it will have to those who did not read the first run that Peter David had on it. Secret Wars at this point seems like it is dragging on just because it started in like June or something. That being said, I am enjoying it.
Welcome once again fellow nerds to the Buy List!
This week I would like to discuss which books I am cancelling and why in addition to the first issue of All New All Different Avengers. I will also talk about my choices in new number 1 issues that are coming out this week.
The Doctor who stories were ones that I really could not get into. Perhaps I should have stuck with them longer but I just could not find myself enjoying them. One thing to really consider is that the acting in the actually show is so strong that it loses both that and the voice of the show. With Spider-Gwen, the new series just is not very good. The original series when it first came out was very strong. I enjoyed the characters and the story and the new world. However, this new series has really lost something. Shield started off fantastic as well but it has decreased in quality over time. Batman Beyond is fine but the arc is tiresome and not very interesting anymore.
All New All Different Avengers was as good if not better than I expected. The team is not together yet in this first issue. There are actually two stories that it follows separately. The first includes Iron Man discussing how there are no Avengers in the world right now. We see Iron Man, Cap (Sam Wilson), Spider-Man (Miles Morales) and some bad guys. In the second story we have Nova and Ms. Marvel and their first meeting. It is a very interesting and endearing story. I can't wait for the second issue and any other story that comes out of this.
All New Inhumans both has Inhuman in its title and the under-appreciated Crystal on the cover. What more do I need to force me to buy this book? Nothing. But I will say that the Inhumans stuff in general has been great and characters introduced in the Inhuman story will be in here and I hope their stories get expanded upon. The ever-busy Charles Soule is also writing this story which brings much joy to my life. He is also writing the new Daredevil series. I love Daredevil. Black suit Daredevil is also exciting. It looks like Gambit is also on the cover. The synopsis says "Welcome to Hell, Blindspot." I wonder if Blindspot is the villain in this story. She was a mercenary who worked for Mystique. No one knows her true name and she is in fact a memory thief. I am very interested in and excited for this series. All New X-Men features the new Wolverine. Honestly, that is the only reason I am picking up the book. I love me some Laura Kinny.
