There have been many criticisms leveled at Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens. The film has been out for over a year now and I believe that, in the wake of Rogue One, it is time to analyze what makes The Force Awakens its own film and why certain criticisms are mislead. I do believe that the film has its own issues and can be criticized, don't get me wrong. I simply believe that the argument that The Force Awakens is just the original trilogy all over again is unfair.
picture and felt more authentically Star Wars than anything to me since The Empire Strikes Back. Obviously, it was not a perfect film, but it effortlessly scaled the first hurdle.
Everything is more personal. We have the the Resistance and the First Order, smugglers and gangs, petty tyrants and kings. This is a galaxy in which things can once again be lost and discovered.
I believe in the Force Awakens. I believe the film was one of the most authentically Star Wars films in a good long while. I understand the criticisms about its similarities to the original trilogy but I do believe, and believe I have demonstrated, how ill-equipped those arguments are. The similarities only strengthen this film and the intent of the film as a whole is completely different. We are brought back into this world of legend and myth and while it is a return, it is also a new beginning. I can't wait to continue this journey to a galaxy far, far away.
On a final side note. May our Princess and General Leia Organa; Carrie Fisher rest in peace. Forever in our hearts.
